American Studies is an interdisciplinary major that allows students to explore different aspects of the American experience. We approach the American experience broadly, exploring the culture, history, politics, literature, and arts of the peoples of the United States.
Our faculty is dedicated to helping students learn to write well, to speak articulately, and to think analytically and creatively. These are skills necessary for success in any field. We are a small department, and we give students a great deal of individual attention. We try to maintain a small-college atmosphere within our enormous state university. We hope that students in American Studies are people, not numbers.
