Conference: Scenes at 20

From Friday, October 06, 2017
To Saturday, October 07, 2017

Dear Colleagues,

I am very pleased to invite you to the upcoming symposium, Scenes at 20.

This symposium celebrates the 20th anniversary of Saidiya Hartman’s
Scenes of Subjection: Terror, Slavery, and Self-Making in
Nineteenth-Century America (Oxford, 1997) and its significance to
studies of Black lives in the past, present, and future. Please join us
as we consider the work’s impact within its intergenerational
intellectual context and theorize new possibilities for Black life and
Black freedom in these perilous times.
