As the spring semester at Rutgers begins, it gives me a chance to think about remote teaching. I teach American Studies, and the past few months have been challenging, to say the least. Like many of my colleagues, I am often tempted to say that I hate remote teaching. I miss the day-to-day contact with my students. I dislike the extra work.

And yet, to be honest, it is not all bad. The shut-down of in-person teaching has forced me to take a fresh look at all that I do.
