Teach-in for Rutgers APIDA Communities and AlliesApril 16 @4:00pm - 5:30pm
A community teach-in on Friday, April 16, 4pm regarding anti-Asian racism and violence. This is part of APIDA (Asian, Pacific Islander, and Desi American) Heritage Month. Moderated by: Haruki Eda (Sociology-Rutgers-NB) and Mi Hyun Yoon (American Studies-Rutgers-Newark), Instructors, Asian American Identities and Images (American Studies/AACC) The COVID-19 pandemic and the geopolitical tension between the US and China have precipitated a spike in the reported cases of street violence against women and elders of Asian descent. The recent mass murders in Atlanta-area Asian spas further signify how acute this issue has become. As instructors, we are especially aware of how severely our students have been impacted by these incidents, and they are feeling inadequately resourced, equipped, and supported to address systemic racism and sexism.
